DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn about different communication styles and cover effective strategies within assertive communication. We’ll pair this with an overview of the decision making/problem solving process\, using practice examples to check for understanding on how to: identify the problem/decision\, identify steps\, and think through potential solutions or results from making decisions. We’ll tie in how self-accommodations can provide supports during the decision-making process and how to trouble shoot barriers they may experience when navigating their disabilities. By participating in this training\, participants will be better prepared for decisions they will be responsible for in adulthood and better able to self-advocate in the workplace. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Independence Through Resilience - Actionable\, Attainable\, Realistic Decision-Making
DESCRIPTION:How we assess goals to see if they are actionable\, attainable\, and realistic? In this training\, participants will learn how to format their goals as SMART goals\, which will help them learn to break down goals into steps they can achieve. We’ll work on different examples from within workspaces\, in social settings\, and in our personal lives\, tackle activities that have us looking deeper into our interests\, and end the session by having 1 to 3 goals that we want to work on in the short term. By participating in the training\, participants will understand what a SMART goal is and be better equipped at breaking down vague or broad goals into smaller (more specific) goals that they can achieve.

SUMMARY:Independence Through Resilience – Task Analysis: Owning Your Role and Contributions
DESCRIPTION:A potential barrier in the workplace that many young adults struggle with is identifying their role\, its responsibilities\, and the impact their role and actions have on the rest of the team. During this training\, we’ll engage in activities focused on analyzing sample work tasks and roles\, understanding how to ask/determine who supervisors are\, and putting together a “picture” of each role within an organization or even a family/peer group has an impact on the others. By participating in this training\, participants will be better equipped at analyzing future job descriptions and tasks and recognizing workplace cultures and dynamics. \n

They will review the recipe and steps before starting the process\, gather ingredients\, and clean up directions. Participant will get to choose their own ingredients for their Panini Sandwich\, taste their finished product\, and take home a copy of the step-by-step recipe/process (including clean-up directions) if wanted. SUMMARY:Tuesday Connection – Founder's Square Tea Room & Exploring
DESCRIPTION:Participants will meet MHI staff at Holly Berry Tea Room in League City for an old-fashioned tea party between 1:00 pm and 2:15 pm.  Then\, we will start exploring and shopping around Founder’s Square.  At the Holly Berry Tea Room you can wear a hat\, pick out your tea\, and enjoy a sweet treat. Between 2:15 pm and 3:00 pm\, we will  explore the nearby shops in the historic Founders Square. The shops we can visit are: GingerSnaps\, Annette’s Emporium\, Nana’s Attic\, and Mommie Chic and Me. By participating in this Tuesday Connection event\, participants will be out in their community socializing with their peers and reducing any feelings of isolation.
