DESCRIPTION:Mounting Horizons (MHI) will present Living Well in the Community (LWC) Peer Supported workshops about setting and working on quality-of-life goals. Advocacy is Week 10 of 11. Self-advocacy and systems advocacy are powerful tools that can help people get their needs met to experience improved quality of life. Advocacy requires combining all the skills of goal setting\, effective communication\, building support and problem solving\, finding and using information\, and managing health to maintain energy and stamina along the way. With MHI Facilitator support\, in this session participants practice identifying a community need\, making a plan\, and working together to get needs met.

SUMMARY:Basic Money Skills
DESCRIPTION:During these sessions\, participants will work on basic money skills with a small group of peers. They will be counting different quantities of coins and bills using their phone or a calculator.  Through active involvement\, participants will develop the ability to discern the appropriate currency required for purchases and verify that they give and receive accurate change. By mastering these monetary abilities\, participants will enhance their independence in the community when exchanging money.

SUMMARY:Cooking Class – Coriander Roasted Carrots
DESCRIPTION:Participants will practice their knife and cooking skills by helping make Coriander Roasted Carrots. They will review the recipe before starting cooking process\, gather and measure ingredients\, follow recipe steps\, use their knife skills and clean up directions. Participant will get to taste their finished product and take home a copy of the step-by-step recipe (including clean-up directions) if wanted. This will enable the individual to be better equipped for independently using a knife\, blender\, and oven to make a side dish.
