DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn about different communication styles and cover effective strategies within assertive communication. We’ll pair this with an overview of the decision making/problem solving process\, using practice examples to check for understanding on how to: identify the problem/decision\, identify steps\, and think through potential solutions or results from making decisions. We’ll tie in how self-accommodations can provide supports during the decision-making process and how to trouble shoot barriers they may experience when navigating their disabilities. DESCRIPTION:How we assess goals to see if they are actionable\, attainable\, and realistic? In this training\, participants will learn how to format their goals as SMART goals\, which will help them learn to break down goals into steps they can achieve. We’ll work on different examples from within workspaces\, in social settings\, and in our personal lives\, tackle activities that have us looking deeper into our interests\, and end the session by having 1 to 3 goals that we want to work on in the short term. By participating in the training\, participants will understand what a SMART goal is and be better equipped at breaking down vague or broad goals into smaller (more specific) goals that they can achieve.

DESCRIPTION:A potential barrier in the workplace that many young adults struggle with is identifying their role\, its responsibilities\, and the impact their role and actions have on the rest of the team. DESCRIPTION:Participants will meet MHI staff at Holly Berry Tea Room in League City for an old-fashioned tea party between 1:00 pm and 2:15 pm.  Then\, we will start exploring and shopping around Founder’s Square.  At the Holly Berry Tea Room you can wear a hat\, pick out your tea\, and enjoy a sweet treat. Between 2:15 pm and 3:00 pm\, we will  explore the nearby shops in the historic Founders Square. The shops we can visit are: GingerSnaps\, Annette’s Emporium\, Nana’s Attic\, and Mommie Chic and Me. By participating in this Tuesday Connection event\, participants will be out in their community socializing with their peers and reducing any feelings of isolation.

Participant will get to choose their own ingredients for their Panini Sandwich\, taste their finished product\, and take home a copy of the step-by-step recipe/process (including clean-up directions) if wanted. DESCRIPTION:The final installment of the Peer collective workshop series\, during which participants will: reflect on and discuss their successes during the workshop\, have a broad review of the topics covered\, consider and discuss which skills from the workshop they plan on using\, discuss their progress towards the personal support goals they set in their first session\, consider how they can continue to work on said goals\, and brainstorm community or online events they might get involved in. By completing the workshop series\, participants will have strengthened skills relating to interpersonal communication\, setting health boundaries\, and navigating differences in various contexts. They will also have increased independence in facilitating conversations with peers and an increased sense of agency in determining their own personal goals.

DESCRIPTION:Mounting Horizons will be offering Mobility Training to learn about different public transportation options available for and around the Galveston County area. In the training\, participants will learn how to set up public transportation through their primary provider and connect with alternative options. Participates will be shown how to advocate on their transportation needs in varies platforms for example\, public meeting that deal with public transportation\, writing letters to local or state representatives\, voicing their ideas to funders over public transportation. Participants will leave with a list of different service providers for their specific area\, if needed an application for para transit provider for their specific area.

By practicing these skills in a fun format with their peers\, participants will have increased knowledge and understanding of what adult responsibilities outside of a school setting look like and be better prepared for setting up goals for their own futures with their loved ones. \n
